Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The tool decodes and re-encodes every image inside your browser using the canvas API. Your files never leave your device, and the page keeps working if you go offline after loading it.
Which formats can I convert between?
It reads JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP, and writes JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. The output buttons are built from what your browser can genuinely encode, so you will not see a format that would silently fall back to something else.
What does target size mode do?
You give a size budget, such as 200 KB. The tool binary-searches the quality setting, re-encoding up to eight times per image, and keeps the highest quality result that still fits under your budget.
Does compressing remove EXIF and location data?
Yes. Re-encoding through a canvas drops all metadata, including GPS coordinates and camera details. The orientation tag is read out first and applied to the pixels, so photos from phones stay the right way up instead of coming out sideways.
Why is WebP usually the best choice?
WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG at the same visual quality, supports transparency, and works in every current browser. AVIF goes smaller still but takes noticeably longer to encode.
Is there a file size or count limit?
None that we impose. The practical ceiling is your device's memory, because each image is expanded to raw pixels while it is being processed. Very large batches are handled one image at a time to keep the page responsive.
